Let us intentially throw aside the weight of division as we attend our various houses of worship today whether in person or virtually.
There is no such thing as a white or black Gospel, a prosperity Gospel, an evangelical Gospel, a social justice Gospel, a word of faith Gospel, a prophetic Gospel or any other Gospel besides the pure, unadulterated Gospel spoken of in the Bible.
Those other Gospels are rooted in our feeble attempts to massage and filter the Gospel through our life experiences and cultures hoping to find easy solutions to life’s very complex problems.
(1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
“For I passed on to you as most important what I also received:
that Christ died for our sins
according to the Scriptures,
that He was buried,
that He was raised on the third day
according to the Scriptures”.
The pure unadulterated Gospel can provide answers in these unprecedented times because it deals with our hearts first. When that happens we gain a whole new perspective on life, and we see the world out of God’s eyes.
(2 Corinthians 5:17)
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, new things have come”.
God recently brought me through a battle with cancer. During that battle I came to understand the importance of rooting out the disease through chemotherapy and radiation. If it’s not attacked at the root the cancer has a potential to come back.
I thank God for the recent medical advances such as medicine for nausea and steroids to keep your strength and energy up. Those advances made it easier for me to go through the healing process by soothing the symptoms of cancer but by themselves they couldn’t provide total healing. The cancer had to come out by the roots.
Racism is a cancerous spiritual disease that is threatening to destroy our country and we’re scrambling trying to address the symptoms. Now don’t get me wrong, eradicating the symptoms will make us feel better for a season, until another video is shared, until another life is lost, until we realize the root of racism is still there. And that root bears the fruits of violence, hatred, inequality, injustice, poverty, hopelessness and pride.
Personally my solution came in the person of Jesus Christ who gave His life for me so that I could experience abundant life. Along with a heart change He commissioned me to share that Good News to a dying world. Do I still feel pain...yes! Am I problem free...no! Do I still see and experience racism...yes! Is the struggle real...yes!
The difference now is I have a hope steeped in reality and I know that WHATEVER goes down I have the victory!
If you’re experiencing stress and depression in this season try God. I’m a witness He won’t let you down. My first prayer when I was in a pit of addiction, despair and hopelessness was “Lord please help me”. And He did.
God heard my prayer and assured me that MY life mattered to Him.
The Gospel still works and that’s “Good News”.
(Psalms 34:8)
“Taste and see that the LORD is good.
How happy is the man who takes refuge in Him”!
